Reclaiming the Seven Mountains
Mon 10th May, 12.10pm
One of our newest teachings at the Father’s House Trust is all to do with what are called the seven mountains of culture. Back in the 1970s, three men of God – Lauren Cunningham, Bill Bright and Francis Shaeffer – all had a similar vision from the Father. They saw that if a nation is to be healed then the children of God need to reclaim the seven spheres that most influence our culture. As Bill Bright said at the time, ‘if we are to impact any nation for Jesus Christ, then we must affect the seven mountains or spheres that are the pillars of society’. What are these seven mountains?
MEDIA AND THE ARTS
EDUCATION
ECONOMY AND BUSINESS
FAMILY
RELIGION
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
At the Father’s House we are 100% committed to influencing the influencers in these seven mountains. In other words, we want to bring the revelation of the Father’s love to leaders in all of these seven spheres so that they in turn maybe agents of transformation in the nation, promoting the cause of fatherhood and addressing the tragedy of fatherlessness in their various realms of influence.
In addition, we have a vision for raising up 100 ambassadors of the Father’s love (and of the Father’s House Trust) who can take the flame of Abba’s love into these seven realms. Imagine in the future a prime minister who is totally wrecked by the Father’s love! Imagine a rock star of the influence of Bono who is living in the same revelation that Jesus came to bring us! Imagine leading businessmen and women running businesses that fully reflect the values of the Father heart of God. Just imagine for a moment what could be achieved if leaders in all these areas were walking in Abba’s love and giving it away! Just imagine…!!!
I don’t know how you respond to this idea. Too often teaching on the Father’s love is restricted to the realm of the individual. It is good and right to start with the individual because revival starts with you and me. But I also happen to believe that the Father’s plans are bigger and broader than this. I believe he wants us to influence the influencers in the high places. He wants us to bring the Father’s love into the seven spheres of influence and he wants us to do this from the place of intimacy not militancy. In other words, he doesn’t want orphans who invade these contexts with an aggressive spirit. He wants sons and daughters who pervade these contexts with servant hearts! Only then will the high places be reclaimed and they will be reclaimed not with the love of power but with the power of love.
One of the sayings of Jesus that the Holy Spirit has been illuminating for me recently is a verse that I used to read pretty well every Sunday for a quarter of a century when I led the Book of Common Prayer Communion Service. In the 1662 language it reads as follows:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
In the New Living Translation it says,
Let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
And in the Message,
Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
What a glorious invitation to live as servant-hearted sons and daughters on the mountain tops!
At the Father’s House we believe that these seven mountains will only be reclaimed by fervent prayer and loving action. We have developed a Seven Mountains prayer card to encourage those who want to intercede with us. We are also working hard to release the first of our 100 ambassadors and to bless existing leaders on the seven spheres. We need to shine with the Father’s love in the mountains! We need to be radiant with compassion and faith wherever we have been positioned to live and work, whether our calling is big or small.
So start being shiny for Dad and bring glory to his Son, Jesus.
